ePropulsion

Powering the Future of Marine Mobility

Founded in 2012 at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), ePropulsion is a global leader in electric marine propulsion systems and services, developing innovative technologies that are accelerating the transition towards cleaner, smarter boating.

ePropulsion provides reliable electric and hybrid solutions ranging from 500 W to 1,000 kW, encompassing propulsion, energy storage, control systems, energy management and intelligent vessel systems, supported by comprehensive turnkey services.

From compact electric outboards to integrated propulsion and energy solutions for larger commercial vessels, ePropulsion technology is designed to deliver efficient, quiet and reliable performance while reducing emissions, maintenance requirements and operating costs.

Today, ePropulsion products are sold in more than 60 countries worldwide and are used across a diverse range of leisure and commercial applications, including workboats, passenger vessels, ferries, harbour craft, survey boats, aquaculture vessels, sailing yachts and recreational craft.

ePropulsion offers a comprehensive range of electric outboard motors designed to deliver clean, quiet and efficient propulsion across a wide variety of marine applications.

For commercial operators and boatbuilders, the X-Series provides next-generation electric propulsion from 12 kW to 40 kW. Its highly integrated architecture combines propulsion, steering, power trim and tilt, intelligent controls and connectivity within a compact system, simplifying installation while maximising valuable onboard space.

Designed for efficiency and reliability, the X-Series delivers powertrain efficiency of up to 88.2%, while reducing noise, vibration, emissions and routine maintenance compared with conventional combustion propulsion.

Its modular design also enables integration with ePropulsion batteries, controls and energy management technology, providing boatbuilders with a complete electric propulsion solution rather than simply an electric motor.

For larger vessels and demanding commercial applications, ePropulsion’s electric inboard portfolio provides scalable propulsion from 10 kW through to high-power systems for substantial commercial craft.

The I-Series, available in 10 kW, 20 kW and 40 kW configurations, combines motor, controller and system management technology within a compact package. Designed for both new-build and repower projects, it is particularly suited to workboats, harbour vessels, survey craft, passenger boats and other applications where quiet, dependable operation is essential.

For larger vessels, the H-Series provides powerful electric propulsion from 60 kW to 250 kW. Its modular architecture allows propulsion and energy systems to be configured around individual vessel requirements, providing boatbuilders and operators with greater flexibility when developing larger electric and hybrid projects.

Across the range, reduced vibration, minimal maintenance and zero exhaust emissions help create quieter working environments while supporting lower lifecycle operating costs.

Electrification extends far beyond the propulsion motor.

At the heart of ePropulsion’s approach is ePropulsion Smart System Architecture (eSSA), an integrated system architecture that connects propulsion, batteries, controls, energy generation and onboard systems.

By allowing key components to communicate and operate as one coordinated system, eSSA simplifies installation and provides operators with greater visibility and control over vessel performance and energy use.

ePropulsion’s expanding energy ecosystem includes high-capacity battery systems, charging solutions, renewable energy integration and intelligent energy management technology, enabling complete propulsion and onboard energy solutions to be configured around the requirements of individual vessels.

This system-led approach provides boatbuilders, naval architects and commercial operators with a scalable platform for developing efficient electric and hybrid vessels.

ePropulsion’s eCore represents the next step in integrated onboard energy management, bringing propulsion, power generation, energy storage and distribution together within one intelligent system.

Designed to simplify complex electrical installations, eCore combines a bidirectional AC/DC charger and inverter, integrated solar charging with MPPT technology, and flexible 12V, 24V and 48V DC outputs within a compact, modular architecture. An optional AC module provides additional integration with shore power, generators and onboard electrical loads.

Built around ePropulsion’s Smart System Architecture (eSSA), eCore supports both fully electric and hybrid configurations, intelligently coordinating multiple energy sources to optimise power distribution and efficiency.

An external 10-inch Smart Display provides centralised monitoring and control of propulsion, energy generation, battery status and onboard electrical systems, giving operators a clear overview of vessel performance and energy consumption.

By reducing installation complexity and bringing essential energy functions together, eCore demonstrates ePropulsion’s commitment to developing complete, intelligent marine energy solutions.

From harbour operations and aquaculture to passenger transport and survey work, commercial vessels operate under very different conditions. ePropulsion systems can be configured to meet a wide range of operational profiles.

Electric propulsion provides particular advantages for vessels operating predictable routes, spending significant time at low speeds or requiring quiet operation. Reduced noise and vibration can improve conditions for crews and passengers, while zero exhaust emissions make electric propulsion particularly valuable for operations in harbours, inland waterways, environmentally sensitive areas and enclosed working environments.

With solutions spanning compact outboards through to high-power integrated propulsion systems, ePropulsion works with boatbuilders, naval architects, system integrators and operators to develop propulsion and energy systems around the vessel and its intended duty cycle.
