FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Orders Six New Tugs From Sanmar

Six-vessel newbuild programme will add four harbour and terminal tugs and two high-powered offshore tugs to FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Polska’s fleet

FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Group has signed a contract with Sanmar Shipyards for the construction of six new tugs as part of a major fleet modernisation and expansion programme for FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Polska.

The order comprises four harbour and terminal tugs alongside two offshore tugs, with all six vessels based on designs by Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. Construction will take place at Sanmar’s shipbuilding facilities in Türkiye.

The power output of the new tugs starts at 6,390 hp with a minimum bollard pull of 80 tonnes. The most powerful vessels will deliver 10,580 hp and a minimum bollard pull of 120 tonnes, providing FAIRPLAY with increased capability for demanding offshore and towage operations.

All six tugs will comply with IMO Tier III emissions requirements and will be built to ice-class standards. This will enable the vessels to support LNG carrier operations throughout the year, including during challenging winter conditions.

Delivery of the first harbour tug is scheduled for mid-2027, with the remaining three harbour and terminal tugs expected to follow by the end of the year. The two offshore vessels are scheduled to enter service during the first half of 2028.

“The choice of Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs built by Sanmar Shipyards was driven by their extensive experience and flexibility in meeting our expectations. They guarantee reliability and the highest quality of workmanship. I would like to sincerely thank our business partners including but not limited to Wybranowski & Nowicki Law Office, Hanseatic Offshore Brokers, Erste Bank Polska and AKT Law Firm for their unwavering support, which opens up new opportunities for growth, as well as the entire FAIRPLAY team for their hard work in executing ambitious projects like this one,“ says Arkadiusz Ryż, Managing Director of FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Polska.

“This agreement marks an important milestone for Sanmar Shipyards and the beginning of a strong partnership with FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Group. This six-tug order reflects the trust in Sanmar’s engineering expertise, proven quality and global capabilities. We are proud to support FAIRPLAY’s fleet expansion and look forward to a long-term and successful partnership,“ says Ali Gurun, CEO of Sanmar Shipyards.

FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Managing Director Philip Harmstorf adds: “With the order of two offshore tugs and four harbour tugs, we are making a clear and consistent investment in the future of FAIRPLAY. Our ambition is to provide our customers with the highest levels of performance, reliability and state-of-the-art technology – not only today, but also in the years ahead. That is why we have deliberately chosen vessels that represent the very forefront of tug technology currently available on the market.

At the same time, this order marks a special milestone for us: for the first time since 2008, we are building with Sanmar again. We have known the shipyard and its capabilities for many years and are very pleased to renew this partnership with such a significant newbuilding programme.

Throughout its long history, FAIRPLAY has always evolved as markets and requirements have changed. That is exactly what we are doing today. We are not investing in vessels for the past – we are investing in a fleet built for the demands of the future, both in port and offshore.”
