Frisia Orders Third Fast Ferry – Inselexpress 3

AG Reederei Norden-Frisia is continuing to expand its fast island transport fleet. Following the commissioning of the fast ferry Inselexpress 2 in May, the company has placed an order for the construction of the Inselexpress 3, which will be built at Next Generation Shipyards.

Frisia new fast ferry is an identical design to Inselexpress 2, accommodating 54 passengers and is scheduled to enter service for the 2026 peak season. Inselexpress 3 will primarily operate between Norddeich and Juist, with additional deployment planned on the Norddeich–Norderney route.

“The fast ferries are very well received by our customers,” says Michael Garrelts, technical inspector of the Frisia. “The Inselexpress 3 thus meets the needs of our guests. Furthermore, with their shallow draft, the fast ferries can reach tide-dependent islands like Juist even better. “The Inselexpress 3 will thus further improve the islands’ connection to the mainland.”

“We are very pleased that AG Reederei Norden-Frisia has exercised the option to build another ship at our shipyard and thank them for their trust,” says Dirk Keizer, Managing Director Next Generation Shipyard in Lauwersoog, the Netherlands.

“Our shipping company sees the comprehensive and reliable supply of the islands as its core mission,” says Frisia CEO, Carl-Ulfert Stegmann. This is why the decision was made to order this additional fast ferry. “The Inselexpress 3 is another component in our overall concept to comprehensively meet customer needs, even during peak times.”
