GMV 2.0-designed 14.99m catamaran will support Ocean Farm Services’ aquaculture services in Scotland
Grovfjord Mek. Verksted 2.0 (GMV 2.0) has signed a contract with Shetland-based Ocean Farm Services for the construction of a new aquaculture service catamaran.
Measuring 14.99 metres in length and 10.4 metres in beam, the vessel has been designed by GMV 2.0 and will be built at the shipyard’s facility in Grovfjord, Norway.
The new catamaran will join Ocean Farm Services’ fleet supporting the Scottish aquaculture industry, with a particular focus on net-cleaning operations.
The vessel has been tailor-made to meet the operator’s specific requirements, with its design and equipment adapted for working in Scotland’s exposed aquaculture locations, where challenging weather conditions place high demands on vessels, equipment and crews.
Great emphasis has been placed on creating a functional and efficient work vessel, while also providing the crew with good working and living conditions on board the vessel. The vessel will be built in accordance with British regulatory requirements and will be approved by SCMS.
“We already own a sister vessel built by GMV, which we purchased from Norwegian owners, and therefore have first-hand experience of the exceptional build quality, craftsmanship and quality that characterizes their vessels. With this experience behind us, it was an easy choice to choose GMV 2.0 for our new vessel.” says Colin Leask, Director, Ocean Farm Services Ltd. ” We look forward to working closely with Bård and his team throughout the construction process, and to following our new vessel as it takes shape. We look forward to the journey ahead and are proud to continue our collaboration with such a highly regarded Norwegian shipyard,”
“This is the first vessel we deliver to the fish farming industry outside Norway, and is therefore a milestone for us. We look forward to working with Colin Leask and his colleagues during the construction of the vessel,” says Bård Meek-Hansen, General Manager GMV 2.0.
