Godby Shipping orders two Stream RoRo 1700s

New Stream RoRo 1700 pair ordered by Godby Shipping, with options for two more RoRos, at CIMC Raffles to enhance capacity, improve efficiency, and meet future environmental standards.

Finland-based RoRo operator Godby Shipping has signed a contract with CIMC Raffles in China for the construction of two Stream RoRo 1700 vessels, with options for an additional two units. The newbuild programme represents a major step in the company’s long-term fleet renewal strategy and supports anticipated future capacity needs across its operating routes.

The vessels will have a length of 125 m, a beam of 24 m and a trailer capacity of 1.700 lm. The cargo capacity in metric tons is abt 6.200. The Stream Roro vessels are equipped with one stern ramp and fixed ramps connecting the three cargo decks. Typical cargo will be trailers, cassettes, cars, other roro car-goes and forest products. The vessels can also load containers, reefer units and various kinds of dangerous goods.

The Stream Roro concept has been developed together with Technolog Services in Hamburg, Germany. It builds upon many years of experience from our past and present vessels. We will put extra focus on minimizing the fuel consumption with extensive CFD modelling in addition to tank testing. The cargo capacity will be 70-100% bigger than in our present vessels Mimer and Midas with the same fuel consumption. The Stream Roros will be equipped with shore power connection and batteries for emission free stay in port and short distances at sea. The battery capacity can later be increased and complemented by new emission free power generation. The new vessels are also prepared for a waste heat recovery system and alternative new fuels such as methanol.

The construction will start in June and November 2027, launching will take place in May and October 2028 and delivery is scheduled for September 2028 and January 2029.

The new vessels will provide work to about 50 people onboard. We hope to be able to put the vessels under Finnish flag. Godby Shipping new RoRo vessels will have high Finnish/Swedish ice-class 1A.
