Grandweld Shipyards, a leader in high-performance vessel construction, has successfully delivered a series of advanced 38-meter aluminium patrol boats, designed to bolster coastal surveillance, offshore patrolling, and rapid-response operations for maritime security forces.
The aluminium patrol boats were built at Grandweld’s modern facility in Dubai Maritime City. They demonstrate the shipyard’s commitment to delivering reliable platforms that meet stringent operational standards.
With an aluminium hull optimised for weight and strength, these patrol boats are designed for performance in both shallow and open water conditions. Their compact draft allows for nearshore manoeuvrability while maintaining seakeeping ability for extended operations.
Each patrol boats measures 38.20 meters in length with a beam of 7.70 meters and a draft of approximately 1.41 meters. The interior supports 18 personnel, with accommodation designed to ensure comfort and efficiency during long-duration missions. Facilities include six twin cabins, one four-berth cabin, and dedicated cabins for the Captain and Force Commander.
It also has extra spaces like a pantry, crew mess, officers’ mess, office, storerooms, and washrooms. These areas help support long-term operations at sea. A seawater-cooled direct expansion system delivers air-conditioning to maintain comfort in high-temperature conditions.
The patrol boats are powered by a triple-engine propulsion setup that enables them to reach speeds of up to 30 knots, even under full operational load. This performance makes them suitable for rapid interception and high-speed patrolling tasks. Each vessel also includes a bow thruster system to enhance precision during docking and close-quarters manoeuvring.
The designers equipped the vessel with a gyrostabilizer system that significantly reduces roll motion and enhances overall stability during operations. This system functions well even when the boat anchors or faces rough seas.
To help with command and control at sea, the boats are equipped with a fully integrated suite of navigation and communication systems. These include dual radar units, DGPS, gyrocompass, autopilot and BNWAS systems. Advanced connectivity tools such as VSAT ensure consistent external communication links.
The vessels are equipped with a complete GMDSS setup for Sea Area A2. This includes backup VHF and MF/HF radios and emergency signalling systems (SSAS). This ensures safety and continuous operation in all conditions.
The vessel also has a talkback system and a sound-powered telephone. These tools help communicate with tactical areas while the vessel is in operation.
One of the key features of the patrol vessel is the joystick control system integrated with an autopilot. This advanced setup unifies steering, propulsion, and bow thruster operations into a single, intuitive control interface. This feature improves the patrol vessel’s responsiveness, control, and ease of use. This is important for keeping efficiency and safety during surveillance, boarding, or emergency response tasks.
All vessels are delivered with life-saving appliances and fire safety systems that meet required regulatory standards. Life rafts, personal safety gear, fire suppression systems, and emergency communication tools are positioned for accessibility and rapid response. These systems fit seamlessly into the vessel layout to support proactive safety and emergency readiness.
With the delivery of this fleet, Grandweld Shipyards reaffirms its capability to deliver high-performance, mission-ready vessels that meet the needs of regional maritime and security agencies. The 38-meter aluminium patrol boats are designed for demanding maritime missions. They give crews the systems, range, and onboard support needed for sustained, high-tempo operations.
