Holyhead Marine Secures Peterhead Port Pilot Boat Contract

Camarc Design and Holyhead Marine collaborate on next-generation pilot transfer vessel for Scottish port operator

Scotland’s Peterhead Port Authority, one of the UK’s most versatile ports, has awarded a contract to Holyhead Marine for the construction of a new 16m pilot boat following a competitive tender process.

The pilot boat, designed by Camarc Design and to be built by Holyhead Marine Services in Holyhead, was selected for its proven build quality, operational efficiency and strong sea-keeping capabilities for pilot transfer operations.

The newbuild will feature an advanced double chine hull design, delivering a range of operational advantages including a finer forward entry, improved spray deflection for a drier working deck, enhanced motion damping in heavy seas and greater stability in following sea conditions.

According to the companies involved, the hull form also offers excellent manoeuvrability for harbour operations together with efficient cruising performance, ensuring the vessel is well suited to the varied demands of modern pilotage duties.
