ILS Ship Design won the award for Innovation of the Year in Tugtechnology 2021

The ILS designed motorized detachable icebreaking bow (DIBB) has today won the award for Innovation of the Year in Tugtechnology 2021 conference, London.

Innovation of the Year award is traditionally awarded to an innovative product, system or service which is considered to have made a significant impact on the design, build or operational aspects of tugs in service.

ILS’ CEO, Kristian Lehtonen says, ”This award is a great acknowledgement for us, and for the Finnish maritime industry. DIBB is the newest development in Finnish state-of-the-art ice technology, and it is the outcome of close cooperation between many organizations. The project is a good example of Finnish innovative spirit.”

ILS has patented the novel icebreaker principle, which is based on the reamer area propulsion, and will continue marketing the DIBB solution worldwide.

Tugtechnology is the tugboat sector’s premier technical gathering, attracting hundreds of leading technological experts, executive decision-makers and innovators.
