Intermarine delivers the new high-speed ferry “SNAV SIRIUS”

Intermarine, a subsidiary of the Immsi industrial group has delivered the new high speed ferry SNAV SIRIUS to the SNAV shipping company. The SNAV SIRIUS is a latest-generation ferry for short sea crossings, which will operate in the Bay of Naples.

Designed by the Intermarine research centre in Messina using state-of-the art industrial design technologies. The high speed ferry SNAV SIRIUS is an example of Italian engineering excellence and the result of years of research in maritime construction to offer shipowners high-quality, innovative, efficient and sustainable products. A modern vessel fitted with all the comforts, the boat guarantees fast, pleasant and safe crossings in all weather conditions for tourists and commuters.

SNAV is delighted to be able to begin services with a latest-generation craft equipped with advanced technologies designed to reduce environmental impact, one of the main goals of the MSC Group. The arrival of the SNAV SIRIUS confirms the company’s commitment to serving the Bay of Naples, where it will work to enhance the quality of its services, gradually eliminate carbon emissions and improve customer satisfaction.

Intermarine is proud to hand over this first hi-tech craft to SNAV, an important event for both companies, who share many years of experience in the maritime sector. This is not the only collaboration between Intermarine and SNAV: both companies are already working on new initiatives with the aim of further improving the travel experience, especially for people with reduced mobility, with their new craft already compliant with the requirements of the Ministry’s latest “PRM” circulars.

The SNAV SIRIUS is an example of Intermarine’s work in Messina, where it continues to invest in developing the professional skills of its employees and the quality of its products, while maintaining its commitment to the area to make an active contribution to local development.

The SNAV SIRIUS is constructed entirely in lightweight aluminium and its Italian design gives it a distinctive personality in the world of high-speed craft. The quality of its technological solutions and its performance capabilities make it a reference model.

While the new boat is similar in size to the HSC SNAV ORION, which has been in service with SNAV for a number of years on links with the islands in the Bay of Naples, it has been completely upgraded. The propulsion system consists of 4 engines and 3 IMO III type-approved generators (Marpol Convention) for electric combustion control, fitted with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for significant emissions reduction. The engines and the generators can also be powered with biofuel, whose use contributes to a well-to-wake emissions reduction of up to 90%. The boat is also equipped with a cold ironing dock socket for shore-to-ship energy supply, and can accommodate a hybrid propulsion system for zero-emission port entry and exit manoeuvres.
