OMS Group has reached a major milestone with the successful twin keel-laying ceremony of its next-generation cable-laying vessels, CS Genesis and CS Triumph, held at Pacific Shipbuilding JSC in Hai Phong, Vietnam.
The ceremony officially marks the start of construction of OMS Group’s G (GREAT) Class fleet, a new series of advanced cable-laying vessels developed in collaboration with Dutch shipbuilder Royal IHC. The programme represents a significant investment in strengthening global subsea telecommunications infrastructure.
Designed to support increasingly complex subsea cable installation and maintenance projects, the GREAT Class vessels will enhance OMS Group’s operational capabilities while meeting growing industry demands for efficiency, sustainability, and scale.
Subsea fibre-optic cables currently carry more than 95% of global data traffic, making modern, purpose-built cable-laying vessels critical to the resilience and expansion of international digital networks. The addition of CS Genesis and CS Triumph will position OMS Group to respond to accelerating demand from hyperscalers, telecommunications carriers, and government-backed infrastructure projects.
Key capabilities of the new vessels include:
- Increased operational independence and flexibility
- Support for large-scale and technically complex subsea installations
- Enhanced network resilience for global connectivity projects
- Improved energy efficiency and advanced propulsion systems to support sustainability goals
Upon delivery, CS Genesis and CS Triumph will play a central role in OMS Group’s long-term strategy to bridge the digital divide, strengthen intercontinental connectivity, and enable the next phase of global digital infrastructure development.
