Large scale expansion at one of Scotland’s biggest West coast marine fabrication facilities

Malin Newbuild, the specialist design and fabrication arm of the Malin Group are rapidly expanding their workforce, following the securement of a multi-million-pound contract with Caley Ocean Systems, to deliver Isolation Caps, handling system and associated components for a new nuclear power plant.

This latest project extends the relationship between Malin and Caley, with the two having formed a progressive partnership in 2020 to build and transport a series of six large offshore structures for this same project.

In this latest project, the horizontal tunnels and vertical access shafts require isolation caps to provide a barrier, providing safety at time of tunnel construction as well as during ongoing maintenance works. The caps will be provided by Caley Ocean Systems, with their team responsible for the design, testing and site integration of the items. Malin Newbuild will lead in the fabrication and transportation of the caps, from their dedicated fabrication facilities in Glasgow.

Gary Mitchelson, General Manager of Malin Newbuild said:“We are delighted to again be working with Caley Ocean Systems on this iconic project.”

“Drawing together engineering expertise across the Malin Group, we are ideally placed to build and transport large structures, such as this, on a build to print or turnkey basis. A project of this size also opens the door to expansion, with opportunities to diversify and upskill our existing workforce.

We look forward to welcoming a number of new colleagues as this scope kicks off – and in reaffirming our existing partnership with Caley, part of the Pryme Group.”

The Malin Group are offering a number of new and exciting recruitment opportunities as part of this project. You can find full details of the range of roles – from welders and platers, to quality control inspectors and project engineers – here.
