After an 18-month build, and following a lavish naming ceremony at the Tersan Shipyard in Turkey in September, the NB1100 Argos Helena has now gone into operation off the eastern coast of South America.
Designed by Marin Teknikk, she’s a 60-metre long factory trawler with accommodation for a crew of up to 30. She’s the 6th vessel built for Norwegian customer Ervik Havfiske, the first was delivered in 2011.
Propulsion comes from Yanmar. Tersan’s Elif Şahin says, “We chose a 6EY26W unit with 1,920 kW output for the main engine because we’ve used similar engines before on other projects. This is attached to a Brunvoll ACG680/PS550 2-speed gearbox which gives us a speed of 13 knots.”

The vessel represents something of a milestone for Tersan, as it is the 100th NB1100 to be built. As well as the longliner capability, she also has a moonpool so nets can be safely deployed in inclement weather.
