MOL Chemical Tankers Secures Time Charter Contracts with CMB.TECH

MOL Chemical Tankers Pte. Ltd. (MOLCT), a subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), is pleased to announce the conclusion of time charter contracts with CMB.TECH for six state-of-the-art 26,000 DWT chemical tankers.

The newbuildings will include four ammonia dual-fuel–ready vessels and two dual-fuel–fitted vessels, underscoring both companies’ commitment to sustainable shipping and the adoption of alternative fuels. These vessels will be constructed by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co., Ltd., with scheduled deliveries between 2028 and 2029

These vessels will be the world’s first ammonia-fueled chemical tankers, contributing to the achievement of net zero emissions by 2050, in line with the MOL Group Environmental Vision 2.2

The dual-fuel–fitted vessels will be equipped with ammonia dual-fuel engines upon delivery, while the dual-fuel–ready vessels will be designed for future retrofitting to ammonia dual-fuel operation, enabling flexibility in adopting sustainable fuel solutions.

As a leading operator in chemical tanker industry, MOL Chemical Tankers has taken proactive steps as a first mover in development of alternative fuels. Following the addition of MGO mono-fuel vessels, along with newly added LNG dual-fuel vessels through the acquisition of Fairfield Chemical Carriers, the company is accelerating efforts to reduce GHG emissions by adopting the latest vessel designs and ammonia fuel.

Ammonia is gaining attention as a next-generation fuel that does not produce CO₂ emissions during combustion, offering a promising pathway to decarbonization. MOLCT will collaborate with CMB.TECH, a member of the CMB Group, which holds pioneering position in the maritime industry for the introduction of ammonia dual-fuel vessels, to further advance its environmental initiatives.

With growing environmental awareness, MOLCT continues to implement concrete measures toward sustainable marine transportation while delivering high value–added services to all stakeholders aligned with these emerging needs.
