NAV Engineering latest Crew Transfer Vessel design

NAV Engineering is pleased to announce its latest Crew Transfer Vessel design, HybriNav35 adding to its portfolio of designs that will bring greater benefits for the offshore market.

NAV Engineering (NAV) which was established in 2023 is a naval architecture design house that is focused on cutting edge designs that are both efficient and environmentally friendly. As a subsidiary of Newport Shipping, NAV leverages Newport Shipping’s decades of maritime experience and expertise.

The latest Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) development further expands the architecture portfolio with new CTV designs being driven by ever-increasing demand for environmental accommodation and flexibility in the fast expanding offshore wind sector.

HybriNav35 at a length of 35.4m is aimed to cater for increased endurance of up to two weeks, where crew will be able to sleep onboard the vessel. This design specification will enable the vessel to support infield transfers and transits between sites 24/7 in O&M and Construction on far-offshore locations.

The design shares some similarities with the previous HybriNav26 in that both vessel designs have a unique hull design, which allows them to be tailored to clients’ requirements. The 26m design has waterjet propulsion, whereas the 35m design has a variable pitch propeller. Both vessels are designed for hybrid propulsion with a 300kWh battery and both can run on HVO biofuel.

Kris Benne, Manager Offshore Wind, NAV explains: “We are trying to increase the use-case for CTVs and enable CTV operations and endurance on far-offshore sites. This will allow clients to use existing construction and O&M models as they can rely on common transfer methods. The endurance allows new models for O&M logistics where Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) are complimented by smaller permanently available assets offshore.”
