Specialist newbuild expands Far East Submarine Cable’s offshore engineering capabilities for subsea cable installation, maintenance and renewable energy projects
Far East Submarine Cable, a wholly owned subsidiary of Far East Smarter Energy, has commenced construction of a new large-capacity multi-purpose deep-sea cable-laying vessel, marking a major expansion of its offshore engineering and subsea installation capabilities.
The vessel’s keel-laying ceremony took place at ZPMC Marine Engineering in Shanghai, marking the start of a project that will enable Far East Submarine Cable to integrate cable manufacturing with precision offshore installation services.
Designed and developed by ZPMC, the vessel will measure 148 metres in length, 38 metres in beam and 11 metres in depth. It will feature a DP2 dynamic positioning system, enabling high-precision operations in challenging offshore environments, and is designed to operate in water depths of up to 150 metres.
With unlimited navigation capability, the newbuild is intended to support offshore wind farm cable installation, subsea cable maintenance, and offshore wind operations and maintenance activities. The vessel has also been engineered to support ring-network cable-laying operations, enhancing installation efficiency and operational flexibility.
The project follows the contract signing between ZPMC and Far East Holding Group in November 2025 for the construction of the specialist vessel.
