As Poland prepares to establish one of its first offshore wind farms, PALFINGER MARINE has been selected to provide 100 platform cranes for the operations and maintenance of offshore wind turbines. This landmark contract establishes PALFINGER MARINE as a key partner in Poland’s offshore wind sector and sets the stage for future collaborations across the region. Commissioned by Smulders, PALFINGER MARINE is providing an essential contribution to the new wind farm, which is a joint development of Equinor and POLENERGIA.
Scheduled to be fully operational by 2028, Poland’s Offshore Wind Farm project near Ustka and Łeba aims to supply up to two million Polish households with energy. As the global demand for renewable energy grows, PALFINGER continues to expand its expertise and product portfolio in the wind sector, strengthening its position as a reliable partner for safe and efficient offshore operations.
“We are proud to deploy our platform cranes off the Polish coast. Being part of this development marks a significant step in the country’s renewable energy expansion”, says Rupert Reischl, Global Sales Manager Wind Cranes at PALFINGER MARINE.
PALFINGER MARINE will equip the Bałtyk 2 and 3 offshore wind farms with 100 PF120-4.0m cranes. Designed for optimal performance in offshore environments, the PF120 is a fixed boom crane with a plug-and-play system for quick and straightforward installation, significantly reducing operational expenditure. Developed by PALFINGER MARINE to expertly take care of any material handling tasks on turbine platforms, these cranes offer a combination of safety, reliability, compactness, lightweight construction, low maintenance, and environmental friendliness.
The production will begin in April in PALFINGER’s plant in Maribor, Slovenia, with all cranes scheduled for delivery by November 2025. Contracting partner of PALFINGER MARINE is the Belgian company and systems integrator for wind farms, Smulders.
“This project is considered as an important milestone for our future cooperation with Smulders and especially as a part of our common growth in the offshore wind industry in Europe”, states Iavor Markov, Global Sales Manager Wind Cranes at PALFINGER MARINE.
