New 36-knot response vessel will support pollution control, safety operations and marine activities across the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool
PD Ports has strengthened its marine operations with the introduction of New Vision, a versatile new response vessel designed to support a range of operational, safety and environmental activities across the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool.
Originally acquired as an open-deck boat without a wheelhouse, New Vision has been adapted to meet the specific requirements of PD Ports’ Marine and Engineering team. The vessel’s design was developed collaboratively by the team and a naval architect.
New Vision will play an important role in marine response operations, including the deployment of pollution-control equipment such as booms, skimmers and oil-spill response equipment, as well as wider safety boat duties.
PD Ports’ Marine director, Chris Stocks, said: “As Statutory Harbour Authority for the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool, maintaining safe and efficient operations is our primary responsibility. This new vessel will help us to provide a highly capable response whenever it is required, particularly in environmental incidents when time is of the essence.”
With a top speed of 36 knots, New Vision provides a rapid-response capability, enabling crews to reach incidents and respond to operational requirements quickly.
Measuring 8 metres in length and weighing approximately 3.4 tonnes, the compact vessel features an enclosed wheelhouse, allowing operations to continue in challenging conditions on the river.
The wheelhouse is equipped with a comprehensive navigation package, including radar and radio systems, providing skippers with enhanced situational awareness and supporting safe navigation.
New Vision is powered by a 300hp OXE diesel outboard engine, providing the vessel with the performance required for rapid response operations.
Constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the vessel offers durability and impact resistance suited to the demands of day-to-day port operations.
New Vision also holds Category 4 certification, allowing it to operate up to 20 miles from the coast during daylight hours. This provides significant operational reach for a vessel of its size.
