SAAM Towage Baptizes Two New Tugs in Chile: Mataquito II and Halcón III

At a ceremony attended by Navy authorities, pilots, customers and executives from SAAM Towage, the company—a global towage industry leader—symbolically baptized two new units that will be added to its Chilean fleet: the Mataquito II and the Halcón III.

“These two tugs will bring added efficiency and safety to maneuvers at domestic ports, diligently supporting trade in our country. The vessels’ design, construction and equipment make them the country’s best and most modern tugs, so we are very proud to add them to our fleet,” underscored SAAM Towage Managing Director Hernán Gómez.

SAAM Towage Chile Country Manager Cristián Cifuentes explained that the vessels “were designed by Robert Allan Ltd., and built by Turkey’s Sanmar Shipyards, and meet the requirements of the ports where we operate since they are compact and highly maneuverable. They are already operative and performing excellently, which is further enhanced by the quality of our captains and crews.”

At the event, the captain of the Mataquito II, Samuel Kroll, and engineer Juan Carlos Rojas received a gift to commemorate the occasion from the vessel’s godmother, SAAM’s Deputy Investor Relations Manager, Paula Raventós.

For the Halcón III, welcoming remarks were given by Captain Nelson Cabrera; Engineer Braulio Campos, and the vessel’s godmother, Verónica Sarnatoro, Head of Real Estate Projects for SAAM.

At the event, guests relived the official ceremonies in Valparaíso and San Vicente to baptize the vessels.
