SALT and Kongsberg Win Canadian Coast Guard Multi-Mission Vessel Design

Norwegian designer SALT, alongside Kongsberg Maritime and Adaptive Marine Solutions, will develop the contract design for Canadian Coast Guard‘s planned six-vessel Mid-Shore Multi-Mission fleet.

Norway-based ship designer SALT, in collaboration with Kongsberg Maritime and Ottawa-based Adaptive Marine Solutions, has secured a contract from the Canadian government to develop the contract design for a new class of Mid-Shore Multi-Mission Vessels (MSMVs) for the Canadian Coast Guard.

The award marks a significant milestone for the SALT–Kongsberg partnership under the Vanguard product portfolio and is expected to support a future newbuild program comprising six vessels.

Under the agreement, SALT will lead the conceptual vessel design, while Adaptive Marine Solutions will support the detailed engineering work required to deliver a comprehensive contract design package suitable for shipyard tendering.

Designed to combine the capabilities of a coast guard vessel and a research ship, the MSMVs will support a broad operational profile including marine science missions, hydrographic surveying, search and rescue operations, and icebreaking duties in Canadian waters.

“It is an honor for us at SALT to take part in such a prestigious project,” the company said in a statement. “Together with our partners, we intend to deliver a harmonized contract design suitable for quoting by the bidding shipyards. With our slogan being ‘passion for ship design,’ we will do our part to ensure the Mid-Shore Multi-Mission Vessels become the efficient workhorses envisioned for the Canadian Coast Guard.”
