RAmparts 2200-design harbour tug LAGANMAN arrives in Belfast following delivery voyage from Türkiye
Turkish tugbuilder Sanmar Shipyards has completed the delivery of the ASD harbour tug LAGANMAN to Belfast Towage in Northern Ireland, marking the latest addition to the operator’s fleet at the Port of Belfast.
The vessel recently arrived in Belfast following a delivery voyage from Türkiye undertaken by one of Sanmar’s experienced in-house delivery crews. Built at Sanmar’s environmentally responsible Altınova Shipyard, the tug was constructed under the project name Sırapınar XXIII before being renamed LAGANMAN ahead of handover.
Designed by leading Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd., LAGANMAN is based on the proven RAmparts 2200 design, widely recognised for its compact dimensions, manoeuvrability and performance in harbour towage operations.
LAGANMAN joins Masterman and Merchantman as the third Sanmar-built tug delivered to Belfast Towage, further strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two companies.
With an overall length of 22.4 metres, a beam of 10.84 metres and a depth of 4.4 metres, LAGANMAN is part of Sanmar’s Sırapınar Class, often regarded as a more compact counterpart to the widely used Boğacay series. Despite its smaller dimensions, including a reduction of 2 metres in length and 1.16 metres in beam, the vessel delivers excellent manoeuvrability, stability and overall performance.
The tug is powered by Caterpillar engines and equipped with Schottel Z drive propulsion units, providing a bollard pull of 50 tonnes and a top speed of 12 knots. It is also fitted with Fi Fi 1 firefighting capability, enabling it to support a wide range of harbour operations.
Designed with operational efficiency in mind, LAGANMAN supports low manning requirements and incorporates advanced automation systems that enhance both performance and environmental efficiency. Its onboard tanks have capacities of 72 cubic metres for fuel oil and 10.8 cubic metres for fresh water.
Sanmar Commercial Director Rüçhan Çıvgın commented: “The continuous development of our Sırapınar Series reflects Sanmar’s commitment to innovation, operational efficiency and environmentally responsible tug solutions. Throughout the specification, design and construction process, we worked closely with Belfast Towage to ensure LAGANMAN fully meets their operational requirements. We are confident the vessel will be a valuable addition to their fleet.”
With its compact dimensions, strong performance and modern onboard systems, LAGANMAN highlights Sanmar’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-performance and reliable harbour tug solutions.
