SeaZip Offshore Service has taken a significant step forward in maritime technology by signing a strategic contract with TechBinder. This partnership will see the installation of the advanced Smart Vessel Optimizer System across SeaZip’s fleet of crew transfer vessels (CTVs).
The system, which uses innovative technologies, will contribute to more efficient energy management and also provide better insights into operational and technical aspects of the vessels. This will significantly improve the performance and operational sailing days of the fleet as well as contribute to more sustainable and cost-effective operations. The implementation of this system marks another milestone in the digital transformation of the maritime industry.
This advanced system is designed to both improve operational efficiency on board SeaZip vessels and optimise fleet management. Through real-time data analysis and advanced technologies, the system will not only reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, but also contribute to cost savings and increase operational performance. The new system also offers benefits to SeaZip’s customer relationships. Our commitment to remain at the forefront of technical developments ensures that we can deliver efficient, high-quality services. The system contributes to more reliable, sustainable and cost-efficient maritime services.
Since early 2023, Techbinder and JR Shipping Group (of which SeaZip is a part) have been working closely together to develop a data logging system from Smart Vessel Optimizer. JR Shipping was curious about how this data could affect their operations and had the system installed on board the container feeder vessel MV Bermuda Islander. Following the positive findings, it was decided, in early 2024, to also install and test the system on board SeaZip vessels. After a successful start aboard CTV SeaZip 5, the SeaZip 9 has also been fitted with the SVO system.
‘The insights gained have already represented multiple returns on investments’ says Martijn Koning, Technical Superintendent at SeaZip. Jan Reier Arends, managing owner of JR Shipping Group added: ‘Many customers ask for a vessel monitoring system and confirm the interest in and need for real-time insight. We are therefore convinced of the added value of installing the SVO system on board our entire fleet of offshore service vessels’.
SeaZip’s primary goal is to support technical operations, especially since the vessels operate worldwide and human resources are insufficient to visit vessels continuously. Access to both live and historic asset data makes it possible to prevent downtime, and when issues arise, the source and resolution can be identified faster without the need to travel, which contributes to the environmental goals of JR Shipping Group.
‘With the support of TechBinder and a growing ecosystem of specialised partners, continuous and rapid developments are guaranteed. We are therefore extremely proud that SeaZip has positively experienced and underlined the added value of our system with the signing of a contract for the implementation of the SVO system on board 5 more of its crew transfer vessels (CTV’s). An important step for our maritime technology’ says Bram van den Boom, co-founder of TechBinder.
