Siemens Gamesa Awards First SOV Contract in Asia to Cyan Renewables

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has awarded a 15-year charter contract to Cyan Renewables for its first SOV in Asia. The contract will begin in 2026 and the SOV will be used to service seventy-three SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines in Hai Long offshore wind farms, located about 50km off the coast of Changhua County in Taiwan. As one of the largest offshore wind farms in Taiwan with a total installed capacity of 1,044MW, the project is expected to power more than one million households.

As Asia’s first dedicated offshore wind vessel operator, Cyan Renewables will equip the SOV with state-of-the-art technology, such as Siemens’ BlueDrive PlusC propulsion system, for optimal energy efficiency while minimising its environmental footprint. The vessel will also be designed to ensure the safe transportation of service technicians all year round to maintain the giant offshore wind turbines, each featuring a 222-metre diameter rotor and 108-metre blade length. The construction of the SOV is expected to begin in Q1 2024.

Along with Siemens Gamesa’s deep engineering expertise and cutting-edge technology in installing and servicing offshore wind turbines, this contract leverages Cyan Renewables’ extensive local network and vessel portfolio to facilitate a safe and smooth maintenance process. This will serve to uphold the operational efficiency of the offshore wind turbines in Hai Long offshore wind farms for the next 15 years.

This is a follow-on collaboration between Siemens Gamesa and Cyan Renewables. Since July 2023, Cyan Renewables has been supporting SGRE in maintaining three offshore wind farms in Belgium with its purpose-built SOV, Groenewind. Harnessing the strengths of both companies, this contract will deepen the continuing relationship between Siemens Gamesa and Cyan Renewables, paving the way for future partnerships to support the global offshore wind industry.
