The latest delivery forms part of a 15-vessel series of 70-tonne bollard pull tugs being built by UCSL for Ocean Sparkle Limited
Udupi Cochin Shipyard (UCS) has delivered the third of fifteen 70-tonne bollard pull tugs being built for Ocean Sparkle Limited (OSL), part of the Adani Group. The 70T Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tug was handed over on 28 September 2026.
UCSL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard, is building the series for Ocean Sparkle as part of the marine services operator’s fleet programme.
Built in accordance with the Approved Standard Tug Design and Specifications framework established by the Indian Ports Association (IPA), the vessel is designed for harbour and port operations.
Designed by Canada-based Robert Allan Ltd., the 33-metre tug has a 12.2-metre beam and is classed by the Indian Register of Shipping. The tug is powered by two main engines, each rated at approximately 1,838 kW, providing a combined installed power of around 3,676 kW and a rated bollard pull of 70 tonnes.
A key milestone for UCSL was the vessel’s completion just 47 days after launch, allowing the shipyard to meet its committed schedule.
The construction programme highlights UCSL’s focus on production planning, efficient build processes and disciplined project execution as it expands its portfolio of commercial and harbour vessels.
The latest tug is the third completed under the 15-vessel programme for Ocean Sparkle, further supporting the marine services operator’s fleet requirements.
The programme also contributes to the development of India’s domestic shipbuilding capability and supports the country’s Made in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
