ABC Delivers 50th DZ Engine for Damen’s CF3850 Short-Sea Freighter

Milestone order highlights strength of long-standing ABC–Damen partnership

Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) has reached a key milestone with the order of its 50th DZ engine for the Damen Combi Freighter CF3850 series.

The milestone was marked by a visit from Damen Shipyards’ management to ABC’s production facilities in Ghent, highlighting the strength of the partnership and its continued focus on delivering efficient and reliable propulsion solutions.

This milestone celebrates a shared achievement built on efficiency, innovation and reliability. The CF3850 Series has established itself as a benchmark within the short-sea shipping sector, with the DZ engine playing a key role to the success of this proven vessel platform.

Jean-Pierre Props, Area Sales Manager at ABC, said: “Reaching 50 engines for the CF3850 Series highlights the confidence Damen places in ABC’s proven engine technology. We sincerely thank Damen for their continued collaboration and are proud to contribute to the success of these vessels.”

Arjan de Vries, Manager Procurement at Damen, spoke: “Fifty engines is more than a number — it’s a track record. It reflects the confidence we place in ABC and the consistent performance we rely on for the CF3850 Series, including the fuel efficiency we see across delivered vessels. This milestone marks a long standing collaboration built on trust, shared standards and a clear focus on dependable ships for the short sea market.”

ABC’s four-stroke, six-cylinder medium-speed engine is renowned for reliability, durability and efficiency. The 6DZ engine and its SCR exhaust aftertreatment system are class approved, meeting IMO Tier III emission standards. With low life-cycle costs, it offers excellent value for shipowners.

The CF3850 Series is available with a 6DZ engine running on MDO, with an optional B100 (FAME) biodiesel capability to reduce net CO₂ emissions. Hybrid operation via PTO/PTI integration and wind-assisted propulsion readiness provides future-proof flexibility. Combined with a modern hull design for low resistance and fuel efficiency, and a box-shaped hold with optional tween deck and lashing eyes, the vessel offers versatile cargo transport while maintaining operational performance and environmental responsibility.

This milestone reflects the continued collaboration between ABC and Damen Shipyards, celebrating their shared achievements in efficiency, innovation, and partnership. Both companies look forward to building on this success together.
