Singapore-based owner Aesen takes delivery of Aesen 116H, a new hybrid crew boat designed for high-frequency offshore operations
Aesen has announced the introduction of the Aesen 116H, a next-generation hybrid crew boat designed to meet the evolving operational requirements of offshore personnel transportation and infield logistics.
Built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards for Singapore-based Aesen, the vessel combines hybrid propulsion, intelligent energy management and battery energy storage to improve operational efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions in offshore operations.
Designed for high-frequency infield operations, the Aesen 116H addresses the specific operating profile of offshore personnel transfer missions, including short transits, variable power demands and standby periods. These operating conditions provide opportunities to optimise energy use and engine loading, supporting improved efficiency across the vessel’s operating cycle.
The hybrid propulsion system has been developed in collaboration with industry partners Stin Global and ZF Asia Pacific with Lehmann Marine’s CUBE battery energy storage systems integrated into the vessel.
By integrating hybrid propulsion and energy storage systems, Aesen 116H is engineered to optimise engine loading and power utilisation, enabling an estimated 30 to 40 percent reduction in fuel consumption compared with conventionally powered crew boats operating under similar duty cycles. The design contributes to lower emissions while maintaining the performance, reliability and responsiveness required for demanding offshore environments.
In addition to its hybrid capabilities, Aesen 116H incorporates a multi-layered redundancy philosophy to enhance operational continuity and reliability. The vessel is designed to maintain essential functions across a range of operational contingencies, supporting safer and more resilient offshore transportation services.
A key feature onboard is Smart Window technology, which enhances situational awareness on the bridge by improving visibility of critical operating areas around the vessel. The system complements conventional navigation and monitoring technologies, supporting informed decision-making in complex offshore operating conditions.
