Allseas has completed one of the most ambitious vessel renewal programmes in its history, with flagship pipelay vessel Solitaire preparing to return to commercial operations following a comprehensive 10-month modernisation project in Rotterdam.
Allseas’ flagship pipelay vessel Solitaire is preparing to return to commercial service after completing one of the most extensive renewal and upgrade programmes in the company’s history.
Following a 10-month modernisation project in Rotterdam, the vessel is entering the final phase of commissioning before sea trials and a return to offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico.
The programme has upgraded almost every major onboard system, including propulsion, power generation, automation and hybrid power capability, while also delivering a comprehensive transformation of the vessel’s double joint factory (DJF) — the core of Solitaire‘s pipelay operations for more than 25 years.
More than a routine refit, the investment is designed to extend the vessel’s operational life while enhancing efficiency, reliability and automation. The upgraded DJF introduces a more data-driven and automated pipelay process, supporting faster, more efficient offshore installation projects and preparing the vessel for future energy infrastructure demands.
The programme brought together hundreds of specialists, suppliers and technology partners to complete the complex engineering works, reinforcing Allseas’ long-term commitment to maintaining one of the offshore industry’s most capable pipelay fleets.
Following successful sea trials, Solitaire will mobilise to the Gulf of Mexico for a major ultra-deepwater pipeline installation project, where its upgraded systems will enter commercial service. The vessel is then scheduled to undertake a two-year international campaign spanning West Africa, Taiwan and Australia, during which it is expected to install more than 1,250km of pipeline.
Having set the benchmark for offshore pipelay for almost three decades, Solitaire now begins its next operational chapter with significantly enhanced capabilities aimed at supporting increasingly complex offshore energy projects worldwide.
