NexusWave connectivity solution to support mission-critical systems on Auerbach’s new ECO heavy-lift vessels
Inmarsat Maritime, part of Viasat’s Communication Services segment, has secured a contract to deploy its NexusWave connectivity solution across Auerbach’s latest series of heavy-lift newbuilds, supporting the German operator’s connectivity performance.
Hamburg-headquartered Auerbach is undertaking a major fleet renewal programme as it responds to rising demand for premium project-cargo transport and prepares for the next wave of environmental compliance requirements. The company’s new ‘ECO’ class multipurpose vessels—currently under construction at Taizhou Sanfu Shipyard in China—are designed to push efficiency benchmarks in both fuel consumption and cargo-handling capability.Inmarsat NexusWave will help to uphold these high standards by keeping mission-critical shipboard systems running at all times.
By combining high speed and availability with unlimited data and global coverage, the fully managed bonded solution is designed to provide a seamless connectivity experience comparable to shore-based internet. This is crucial to support the data-intensive technologies and processes deployed by modern ship owners like Auerbach which also need to comply with increasing regulatory reporting requirements. The NexusWave deployment can also translate into a competitive advantage.
Jan Boldt, Technical Director, Auerbach, said: “Our ongoing fleet renewal programme reflects a commitment to leading the modernisation of the project cargo sector by building, owning, and operating cutting-edge, eco-friendly multipurpose vessels. Inmarsat’s NexusWave will support the vessels’ efficient operations and regulatory compliance, as well as satisfying customer and crew requirements, with unlimited high-speed connectivity from a single, fully managed source.”
Jan-Henning Stehr, Sales Manager – Europe, Inmarsat Maritime, commented: “Modern ship owners and managers across the maritime industry recognise the competitive advantage that can be gained through fully managed bonded connectivity. Auerbach’s new ships will serve growing demand for top quality project cargo assets and NexusWave will provide the seamless, next-generation connectivity that aligns with the company’s ambitions to drive modernisation of the sector.”
