Axel Johnson International Acquires Hercules Group, Strengthening Position In Offshore Wind

In a strategic move, Axel Johnson International’s business group Driveline Solutions has acquired Hercules Group, a UK-based specialist in hydraulic and electric systems for small-to-medium-sized vessels. This acquisition strengthens Driveline Solutions’ position in the marine market, particularly within the growing offshore wind sector, and supports its strategy to accelerate electrification and expand hydraulic offerings.

Hercules Group is a trusted full-service partner, providing a wide range of hydraulic systems, electric bow thrusters, and other critical equipment tailored to maritime clients. Their expertise spans all aspects of vessel operation, offering integrated solutions that improve performance, reliability, and efficiency across entire fleets. Their comprehensive approach to system integration makes them an essential partner for sectors ranging from offshore wind to commercial fishing. The acquisition strengthens Driveline Solutions ability to deliver integrated solutions across both marine and non-marine sectors, leveraging synergies with companies such as MIT, IOW, and Regal Components. With more than 50% of Hercules’ sales generated outside the UK, the move also accelerates international growth, particularly in Asia and North America.

Jan Brattberg, Managing Director of Driveline Solutions, commented: “Hercules’ full-service offering in hydraulic and electric systems, combined with their focus on renewable energy, aligns perfectly with our strategy to expand within the marine industry. This acquisition enables us to offer comprehensive system solutions that are highly attractive in today’s market.”

Ryan Langley, CEO of Hercules Group, said, “We are excited to join forces with a large, well-established owner that has deep knowledge in our product areas and propulsion systems. Axel Johnson International’s strong values and commitment to sustainable growth align perfectly with our vision for the future. Together, we are eager to continue developing the business, expanding our offerings, and strengthening our position in the global market.”

Hercules’ management team, including CEO Ryan Langley, will remain in place, ensuring continuity and driving the next phase of the company’s development. This stability is key to maintaining the strong relationships and technical expertise Hercules is known for, while leveraging the additional resources and strategic insights from Axel Johnson International.

Hercules Group is a leading UK-based developer and supplier of hydraulic and electric systems, serving both marine and non-marine sectors, including the renewable energy industry. With extensive experience in producing custom-engineered, high-quality marine products, the company operates its own manufacturing facility, ensuring efficient management of the entire process from concept to delivery in a cost-effective manner. Headquartered in Paignton, England, Hercules Group has established a strong reputation for innovation and consistent growth and is widely recognized as one of the UK’s most knowledgeable hydraulic suppliers.
