Belov Shipyard will construct four next-generation harbour tugs as part of SAAM Towage’s 2030 fleet modernisation programme.
SAAM Towage has signed a contract with Brazil’s Belov shipyard for the construction of four new azimuth stern drive (ASD) tugs, each delivering 70 tonnes of bollard pull, as part of its long-term fleet renewal programme in Brazil.
The newbuilds, scheduled for delivery within 20 months, will join SAAM Towage’s Brazilian fleet and support the company’s strategy to modernise its assets while strengthening operations in one of its key regional markets. SAAM currently operates more than 65 tugboats across 19 Brazilian ports.
Designed specifically for SAAM’s operational requirements, the vessels will combine high-performance towing capability with enhanced efficiency and safety. Each tug will be equipped with FiFi 1 external firefighting systems and feature an optimised deck walkway designed to improve visibility, accessibility and operational functionality.
The project will also support the development of Brazil’s maritime industry and logistics sector, particularly in Salvador, Bahia, where Belov Shipyard continues to expand its shipbuilding capabilities.
For Belov Group, the contract represents a significant milestone as it strengthens its position in the naval construction market. The company has recently invested in expanding and modernising its production facilities, including upgrades to its industrial infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities, enabling it to undertake increasingly complex vessel construction projects.
