Joint Ocean Pacific Marine and Camarc Design project will deliver next-generation platforms for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police
Ocean Pacific Marine, in collaboration with Scottish naval architecture firm Camarc Design, has secured a $74.7 million contract from the Government of Canada to design and build three Next Generation Police Coastal Patrol Vessels for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
The new vessels will be operated by the RCMP’s West Coast Marine Services, supporting marine policing operations along British Columbia’s extensive coastline 26,000 kilometres of coastline. The new vessels will replace and modernize the RCMP’s existing coastal patrol fleet, improving law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency response, and policing services for remote coastal communities.
Camarc Design has extensive experience in the development of high-speed patrol vessels, with its designs currently serving police, coast guard, naval and rescue agencies around the world.

The RCMP contract is expected to generate significant long-term economic benefits for Campbell River and British Columbia’s marine industry. Construction of the three vessels will support skilled employment across welding, marine engineering, electrical and mechanical trades, project management, quality assurance, procurement, and administration, while also creating new job opportunities.
The project will generate substantial work for a broad network of British Columbia-based suppliers and subcontractors, including our key fabrication partner, Bracewell Marine Group, based in Richmond, BC, whose expertise will contribute to the successful delivery of the vessels.
For Campbell River, the award further strengthens the city’s growing reputation as a leading centre for marine services including shipbuilding and vessel repair on Canada’s West Coast, while supporting apprenticeship and local workforce development, attracting engineering and technical talent, and contributing to regional economic activity over the next several years.

Police Coastal Patrol Vessels Specifications:
- Design: Camarc Design 25-metre series; all-aluminum monohull, approximately 26.8 m overall
- Speed: sustained operations to 28 knots
- Range: 450 nautical miles at sustained speed, with 7-day endurance
- Crew: Four plus two specialist personnel
- Mission Capability: policing, coastal security, dive and underwater recovery support, and towing.
- Class: All three vessels will be built to the same class standard under supervision of a member of the International Association of Classification Societies and in accordance with Transport Canada Regulations
