Former Oceanic III completes successful sea trials following extensive conversion into the CF Formidable
Chevalier Floatels’ new CF Formidable has successfully completed sea trials, paving the way for entry into offshore service. For Holland Shipyards Group, the achievement marks another milestone in the extensive conversion of the former Oceanic III into a modern offshore construction support vessel.
The 110-metre DP2 Construction Support Vessel exceeded performance expectations during a comprehensive programme of trials, reaching a top speed of 16.7 knots while successfully completing a series of manoeuvring and system tests. The vessel demonstrated strong seakeeping characteristics throughout, remaining comfortable even during demanding operational exercises.
For vessel owner Chevalier Floatels BV, the successful trials represented the culmination of months of planning, engineering and collaboration.
“It is always a nerve-racking experience seeing a new vessel head to sea for the first time, but those concerns quickly disappeared,” the company said. “The vessel performed exceptionally well without any major issues, which is a testament to the quality of workmanship from everyone involved, particularly Holland Shipyards Group and Bakker Sliedrecht.”
Bakker Sliedrecht was responsible for the integration and pre-commissioning of the vessel’s onboard systems, helping to ensure a smooth and successful testing programme.
Equipped with a 150-tonne AHC crane, extensive deck space, DP2 capability and high-standard accommodation, CF Formidable has been designed to support a broad range of offshore construction and subsea operations.
Holland Shipyards Group also acknowledged the vision and commitment of Chevalier Floatels BV throughout the conversion programme, describing the project as an example of the close partnership required to transform an existing vessel into a highly capable offshore asset ready for demanding operations.
