Clements Engineering secures 9 boat deal with Goodchild Marine Services

Clements Engineering is delighted to have recently won the contract to supply a full stern gear package for all 9 pilot vessels recently commissioned by Associated British Ports (ABP) and being built by Goodchild Marine Services.

The project will consist of three ORC 171 pilot vessels operating at 641hp @2100rpm, and six smaller ORC 136 vessels working at 512hp @1800rpm. The nine vessels will serve around the UK, with five in ABP Humber ports, three in Southampton, and the remaining operating in Barry, South Wales.

Stephen Pierce, General Manager at Goodchild Marine Services commented “Clements Engineering, established over 30 years ago, have worked with Goodchild Marine Services on a number of projects over that time, including with our ORC range of pilot boats. The ABP project is the largest project to date, and we are therefore delighted to be continuing this business relationship with another British manufacturing company.

The full stern gear package comprises of a complete drive train and steering systems, with 31” 5 blade Hyperform propellers for the ORC 171 pilot vessels and 27” 5 blade Hyperform propellers for the ORC136 vessels.  Clements Hyperform blades have been designed specifically for high performance vessels, allowing for the best fuel efficiency at both high and low speed manoeuvring.

Clements Engineering has previously worked with Goodchild Marine Services on a number of vessel builds including the previously built ORC 171 vessels for Briggs Marine.

Clements Engineering Managing Director, Paul Williams commented “We are very pleased to have been chosen for this project, which will see 9 vessels being built in the UK for the UK marine sector. The market conditions recently have been tough, and it is really encouraging news to see a British builder with a busy order book – we look forward to supporting them with our stern gear packages during the project”
