CRIST S.A. are pleased to announce that on the 8th of August 2024, they were awarded by Maersk Supply Service Canada Ltd., a contract for design and construction of a dedicated offshore support vessel, that is scheduled to be delivered by the first quarter of 2027.
The newbuild Maersk Supply Service OSV (offshore support vessel), tentatively named ‘Project Sea Dragon’, will be delivered to service the White Rose field offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, for Cenovus Energy.
Sea Dragon will be the next generation of OSV Vessel, based on the MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting Ltd. 995L SBC hull design, that will provide services including down staffing / crew change, drilling support, field safety standby, emergency towing, and ice management.
As the OSV market is dynamic and influenced by various factors, driven by increasing day charter rates, oil and gas prices, regulatory changes, and global economic conditions, modern OSV’s must allow for stronger utilisation by technological advancements thus the newbuild will be designed with 2 x 1 MWh battery packs that can provide fuel savings up to 35%.

Technological innovations were adopted for the Sea Dragon, such as dynamic positioning class 3 and advanced navigation systems, enhance operational efficiency with lowest possible environmental footprint and optimal behaviour and performance in various modes of operation providing highest possible safety in offshore environments.
The Sea Dragon OSV concept was developed by MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting Ltd, which will also be responsible for the vessel’s basic design documentation.
