CY Frontier is the first of four next-generation heavy transport vessels under construction for the joint fleet
CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping have officially christened CY Frontier, the first of four new BC-Class Heavy Transport Vessels (HTVs), marking a significant milestone in the expansion of the partners’ heavy transport fleet.
The newbuild forms part of the companies’ ongoing investment in next-generation heavy transport capability, designed to support the growing demand for larger and more complex offshore, energy and industrial project cargoes worldwide.
The naming ceremony saw Jenny Jung officially christen the vessel as godmother. Representatives from CY Shipping, BigLift Shipping and Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding attended the event, underlining the close collaboration between the vessel owners, shipbuilder and project team throughout the construction programme.
As the first vessel in the new BC-Class series, CY Frontier represents the next step in the development of the joint Heavy Transport fleet. The vessels have been designed to transport increasingly large offshore, energy and industrial modules, offering customers greater capacity and operational flexibility.
Measuring 180 metres in length with a beam of 43 metres, the BC-Class features a fully unobstructed cargo deck of 6,020 m². Cargo can be loaded and discharged over both the stern and the side using RoRo and skidding methods. With a deadweight capacity of 25,000 tonnes, a high-capacity ballast system and advanced tidal compensation capabilities, the vessels are well suited for demanding heavy transport and module installation projects.
The BC-Class is fully compatible with BigLift Shipping’s existing MC-Class vessels, BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin, while offering a longer cargo deck and enhanced stern-loading capabilities. This expands the range of projects that can be executed and provides customers with even greater flexibility.
Johan Boer, Managing Director of BigLift Shipping, said: “The BC-Class represents the next step in the development of our Heavy Transport fleet. By combining the proven capabilities of our existing vessels with increased cargo capacity, enhanced flexibility and improved operational efficiency, the BC-Class will enable us to support increasingly complex transport projects around the world.”
Construction of the remaining three BC-Class vessels is progressing according to schedule. BigLift Pioneer, the second vessel in the series, is expected to be delivered later this year. By mid-2028, CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping will operate a joint fleet of eight Heavy Transport Vessels, further strengthening their ability to provide engineered transport solutions for the offshore, energy and industrial sectors.
