Cyan Renewables Celebrates Keel Laying Ceremony for Newbuild SOV

Cyan Renewables announce a significant milestone in the construction of its latest newbuild Service Operation Vessel (SOV), NB 979. The vessel’s keel laying ceremony took place on January 10, 2025, at VARD’s Vung Tau shipyard in Vietnam, formally marking the start of the vessel’s construction. This achievement reflects the strong collaboration between Cyan, the vessel’s shipbuilders at VARD and its end client, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy

Construction progress on the vessel is now underway and pleasingly already ahead of schedule, generating heightened confidence and enthusiasm among stakeholders, with the vessel set to enter a long-term contract on Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind project, Hai Long Offshore Wind Project.

Commenting on this significant milestone, Cyan Renewables CEO, Keng Lin Lee, said, “Cyan’s management and onsite team, together with strong support and a high level of coordination with Siemens Gamesa and VARD, have made significant progress on NB 979. This vessel exemplifies Cyan’s commitment towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future, and we are proud to be the operator of choice for Siemens Gamesa’s first SOV in Asia Pacific.”

Commenting on the vessel, John Colyer, Head of Service Operation Offshore Asia-Pacific said,Siemens Gamesa is proud to see the construction of our first service operation vessel in Asia Pacific reach this important milestone. This vessel represents a key step in strengthening our offshore wind operations in the region, enabling us to deliver efficient, safe and sustainable service to Hai Long Offshore Wind Project. Our collaboration with Cyan Renewables and VARD underscores our shared commitment to advancing renewable energy and shaping a greener future.”

Runar Vågnes, SVP Sales and Marketing in VARD, and responsible for the commercial part of the contract, said, “VARD is proud to be the chosen partner for this project, making maritime opportunities possible. We are delivering this through a VARD 4 19 design which is a highly versatile platform, offering class-leading station keeping performance, further improved fuel-efficient solutions and logistics.”

With construction on NB 979 progressing at an accelerated pace, the vessel is on track to be delivered by Q2 2026.

Cyan Renewables looks forward to contributing to the growth of the global offshore wind sector and playing a vital role in driving the world’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future, powered by renewable energy.
