Fully electric waste tanker RASA and two electric-hybrid pilot boats delivered to the Port of Klaipėda with EST-Floattech battery systems onboard
EST-Floattech has announced the successful delivery and commissioning of its maritime battery systems aboard three new vessels built by Baltic Workboats for the Port of Klaipėda, including the fully electric waste tanker RASA and two electric-hybrid pilot boats.
The project marks another milestone in the Port of Klaipėda’s drive to decarbonise operations and modernise its fleet, while also representing a further successful collaboration between EST-Floattech and Baltic Workboats in advancing sustainable maritime solutions in the Baltic region.
The vessels combine proven maritime engineering with advanced electric and hybrid propulsion technologies, supporting the Port of Klaipėda’s ambition to reduce emissions, improve operational efficiency and modernise its fleet for long-term environmental performance.
For the fully electric waste tanker RASA, EST-Floattech supplied a 2 MWh Octopus Series battery system. Designed to operate reliably under demanding harbour conditions and continuous duty cycles, the system enables the vessel to operate for up to 10 hours without charging, ensuring reliable performance throughout full working shifts. EST-Floattech’s team focused on the system being able to support the critical requirements for utility vessels operating in port environments.

“Projects like WT RASA demonstrate that even vessels with demanding heavy-duty duty cycles can successfully transition to zero-emission operations when the energy storage system is designed accordingly,” said Walter van der Pennen, CCO at EST-Floattech. “Reliability and predictability are crucial for any vessel, but especially essential for harbour operations. We are proud that our Octopus Series battery technology contributes to the efficient and emission-free performance every day.”
In addition to preventing emissions, the fully electric operation of WT RASA significantly reduces noise levels within the harbour area, contributing to a cleaner and quieter working environment.
“We are pleased to have partnered with EST-Floattech on the delivery of WT RASA. The combination of our proven shipbuilding expertise and reliable battery technology of EST-Floattech has resulted in a future-ready vessel capable of meeting the operational demands of the Port of Klaipėda.” – Arro Truumees, Project Manager at Baltic Workboats
In addition to WT RASA, Baltic Workboats has also delivered two electric-hybrid pilot boats. The vessels are equipped with battery systems with a total capacity of 240 kWh. The configuration allows the vessels to operate in fully electric, hybrid and direct diesel modes depending on operational requirements. The battery system enables speeds of up to 10 knots in electric mode and a range exceeding 15 nautical miles at 7 knots.
The successful delivery of WT RASA and the hybrid pilot boats highlights the growing role of electrification and hybridisation in commercial and governmental workboat operations across Europe.
