Farra Marine helps environmental protection with Wavestream System 2 Stainless Steel bilge water filters fitted on its first crew transfer vessel
Farra Marine, a company which specialises in supporting crew transfers and operations in the offshore renewals sector is also helping protect the environment by fitting Wavestream bilge water filter systems on its first service vessel.
Farra Orla is a 27m catamaran designed by Incat Crowther and built by Penguin Shipyard in Singapore. The vessel is the third in Penguin’s Windflex 27 series and is designed specifically for offshore wind farm support roles with excellent speed, deadweight and seakeeping qualities. Farra Marine specified the Wavestream bilge water filter system to ensure that no traces of oily waste water are emitted whilst undertaking crew transfer and wind farm support operations in the Irish sea, North sea and Baltic.

The Wavestream filter technology removes all trace of pollutants which bonded within the filter cartridge.
Farra Orla is the company’s first Irish flagged CTV and the company aims to have a fleet of 12 by the end of 2024. Compliant with Bureau Veritas and meeting the European regulations for the transfer of up to 24 offshore workers, the vessel is powered by quad Scania engines, each producing 662kW, with propulsion via quad Hamilton 521 waterjets, giving an operating speed in excess of 29 knots.
With a deadweight of over 50 tonnes, Farra Orla features two working decks. The forward deck is equipped with a deck crane and can accommodate four 10 foot containers, or two 20 foot containers. A further 10 foot container can be fitted onto the aft deck.
The main deck passenger space is large and open with forward visibility and seating for 24 personnel in comfortable suspended seats. The main cabin area also includes a large wet room with multiple showers, toilets and lockers. There is a crew mess with food preparation area, and each hull has two single crew cabins and bathrooms.
