As GLO MARINE celebrates its 9th anniversary, the company reflects on a journey marked by ambition, learning, and a clear focus on becoming a specialised partner for vessel upgrades and decarbonisation retrofit projects. What began as a ship design company has grown into a multidisciplinary team capable of managing complex, end-to-end retrofit scopes, an evolution driven by bold decisions, technical growth, and a constant preference for practical, hands-on work.
WHAT GLO MARINE DOES TODAY
Today, GLO MARINE focuses on delivering integrated retrofit and upgrade solutions for vessels. The company’s work brings together engineering, planning and on-site execution, with the aim of making complex changes on board safe and efficient.
This work ranges from decarbonisation and energy-efficiency retrofits to system integrations, vessel conversions and modifications, technical assessments and feasibility studies, as well as on-board support during installation and commissioning.
Across these projects, GLO MARINE’s role is to bridge the gap between drawings and reality on board: making sure that what is designed can be installed, integrated and operated reliably in day-to-day use.
“We started with the vision of becoming one of Europe’s leading engineering companies, and nine years later I’m proud to see that we are firmly on that path, as a trusted vessel upgrade partner. It’s a journey built on hard work and great and passionate people, that I am proud to work with.” Liviu Galatanu, Managing Director
THE TEAM AND SKILLS BEHIND THE PROJECTS
The ability to handle complex retrofit scopes is closely linked to how the team has evolved over the years. GLO MARINE has grown from a design-focused office into a multidisciplinary organisation that brings together a wide range of skills and perspectives. Today, the team includes naval architects, structural, electrical and systems engineers, designers, project coordinators and planners, as well as site and field personnel involved in supervision and commissioning.
This combination of skills allows GLO MARINE to stay close to a project throughout its lifecycle and to react quickly when conditions change on board. The focus is not only on technical expertise, but also on how people work together: engineering and site teams sharing information, learning from each project and feeding that experience back into the next one.
“You can see our nine-year journey in the capability of the team we have today. We now have all the in-house skills required to deliver demanding retrofit projects from start to finish. These skills have been built by doing the work, project after project, and they continue to grow with every new assignment. ” Alin Pohilca, Operations Director.
LOOKING AHEAD
Nine years of steady evolution have given GLO MARINE a clear identity and a way of working that fits the type of projects it takes on today. The company’s journey from ship design origins to a specialised retrofit organisation is visible in its day-to-day activity: focused, hands-on and built around technical depth.
As decarbonisation, new technologies and changing operational requirements continue to reshape the maritime sector, GLO MARINE remains committed to strengthening its capabilities, investing in its people and staying close to what actually happens on board vessels. The goal for the coming years is to keep growing as a trusted partner for complex retrofit projects, while remaining practical, adaptable and grounded in real project experience.
