Frøy ASA and Mowi ASA sign contract for a new environmentally friendly workboat

Frøy ASA and Mowi ASA have entered into a contract for a new workboat, which is under construction at Sletta Verft. The boat is expected to be delivered in autumn 2024.

The workboat “Frøy Supporter” will be an efficient and environmentally friendly service boat in the Macho 20 series from Møre Maritime. The boat is a further development of the boats Frøy Skuld and Frøy Hild in the same series, and will operate as a support vessel for de-lice operations.

Good working environment and lower environmental footprint

– With “Frøy Supporter”, we have had an additional focus on noise reduction and carbon footprint. Together with our customers, we are leaders in the green shift, to ensure a lower environmental footprint for the aquaculture industry. A powerful battery pack of 1074 kWh provides a significant reduction in the CO2 footprint in addition to financial savings on fuel consumption, says Amund Melle, Operations Manager Frøy.

The large battery pack and a quiet hydraulic system provide a quieter environment in work operations for the crew around the cage and neighbors at the sites.

– We have focused on comfort and noise reduction, which provides a better working environment for the crew during 24-hour operation. This leads to well-being and a stable crew. A stable crew is the basis for good relations between service and support vessels, wellboats and treatment vessels and locality, which in turn contributes to efficient and safe work operations for both people, fish and vessels, adds Melle.

Future-oriented cooperation

Mowi makes high demands on the environment, safety and efficiency. Head of the service and project department for the West and Central region of Mowi, Magnar Svoren, is pleased that he and Frøy have the same focus on continuously improving both the working environment and environmental footprint.

– We are continuously working to improve our operations. For us, it is strategically important to work systematically to cut CO2 emissions. At the same time, a good working environment and good conditions for both our own employees and partners are very important. This boat contributes to both lower noise and less exhaust when working on the cages. It is good for both the people on board and the environment, says Svoren.

Andreas Krogstad, sales director at Frøy ASA, says that Frøy and Mowi have had a good collaboration for a number of years, and is happy to have a partner working towards a common goal. Krogstad emphasizes that they work continuously to renew the fleet and invest in new and environmentally friendly vessels are the most important factor in achieving the green shift.

– For us, it is a declaration of confidence that we have now entered into another agreement with Mowi. They are a forward-looking customer with whom we have had the pleasure of working closely for many years. That we can together lead the way in the green shift is important to us as players and the industry as a whole. At the same time, it is pleasing that there are Norwegian suppliers throughout. It is missions like this that keep Norwegian society going. This is a future-oriented collaboration from which we all benefit, concludes Krogstad.
