Global Maritime consultancy package covers Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems, battery safety and cyber resilience for next-generation cable vessels
Marine and engineering consultancy Global Maritime Consultancy has secured a contract from Colombo Dockyard, Sri Lanka, to provide Dynamic Positioning consultancy services for Next-Generation Cable Maintenance Vessels
The DP Equipment Class 2 vessel is being designed to achieve the BV DYNAPOS-AM/AT-R notation and will feature an advanced three-split DP zone architecture, comprising two DP power and propulsion zones powered by generators and a dedicated DP power zone incorporating a Battery Energy Storage System. The battery system will provide peak shaving during transit operations and spinning reserve during DP operations, supporting improved energy efficiency and reduced emissions. The hybrid design reflects the increasing use of battery systems across newbuild offshore vessels, particularly within the offshore wind market.
Global Maritime will deliver the DP System Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for both open and closed bustie configurations, DP System FMEA Proving Trials, and the DP Operations Manual. In addition, the team will perform a Battery System Safety Analysis, alongside a Cyber Risk Assessment to support compliance with the BV CYBER RESILIENT notation.
Delivery of the first vessel is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028, followed by the second vessel in the first quarter of 2029. The hybrid-powered vessel has been specifically designed by Vard to support fibre optic cable repair and maintenance operations worldwide.
The project demonstrates Global Maritime’s capability to support the development of next-generation vessels, combining specialist DP, safety and cyber assurance expertise to support the safe and effective integration of emerging technologies.
