Green Yard Kleven to Build New Field Support Vessel

Green Yard Kleven announce the signing of a significant newbuilding contract with OMV Petrom SA, Romania’s leading energy company, for the construction of a state-of-the-art Field Support Vessel (FSV). This vessel will serve the Neptun Deep project in the Black Sea, supporting operations on an unmanned gas platform. Work on the project begins immediately, with delivery scheduled for the second half of 2026.

“It is a day of excitement at Green Yard Kleven. Since taking over the yard in 2020, we have worked purposefully to establish ourselves in the new construction market with the right project for us, it is therefore very satisfying that we have now landed this contract” said Hans Jørgen Fedog, CEO of Green Yard Kleven.

The 89.5-meter-long multihull vessel will be equipped with a W2W (Walk to Work) walkway, an offshore crane, and accommodations for 90 personnel in single cabins. The ship will play a critical role as a base for technicians performing maintenance on the platform, conducting light IMR (Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair) missions, and transporting personnel and supplies.

“The ship must be built prepared for the use of methanol as fuel, battery pack and generator set with variable speed. It is a ship that has been designed to be sustainable both in terms of fuel and emissions, and in the mission it will carry out,” said Rune Gamlem, Sales Manager at Green Yard Kleven.

The hull will be built by Montex in Poland, arriving at Green Yard Kleven’s facility in Ulsteinvik at the start of 2026. The vessel is designed by Marin Teknikk, based in Herøy, and bears the designation MT-6067 FSV. The project will involve multiple local subcontractors, contributing to the regional economy.

“Seabrokers’ department in Fosnavåg has also contributed to making this contract possible. In addition to Seabrokers and Marin Teknikk, we want to collaborate with local players as far as possible, and we believe we will achieve several good local collaborations in this project,” says Gamlem.

As this Field Support Vessel is a major newbuilding project progresses, Green Yard Kleven anticipates growth, which will likely lead to the need for more employees.

“This project is a milestone for us, and we are excited for the journey ahead,” concluded Fedog and Gamlem.

About the Neptun Deep project
The ship will be used in the “Neptun Deep” project, which is the largest natural gas project in the Romanian Black Sea, and the first deep-water offshore project in Romania. This will contribute to the country’s security of energy supply. OMV Petrom acts as operator for the Neptun Deep project, as part of a joint project. More about the Neptun Deep project here
