H-3 Leszko is the fifth in a series of six tugboats ordered by the Polish Navy from Remontowa Shipbuilding, a member of the Remontowa Holding group. On Wednesday, 24 February this year, the vessel left Gdansk and sailed to the Naval Port in Gdynia to join the 3rd Ship Flotilla named after kmdr. B. Romanowski.
The tugs for the Polish Navy are being built under a contract signed with the Armament Inspectorate in June 2017. Five support vessels out of the contracted six – H-12 Semko, H-11 Bolko, H-1 Gniewko, H-2 Mieszko and the aforementioned H-3 Leszko have already been handed over to the Ordering Party, and in December 2020 the ceremonial launch of the last tug – H-13 Przemko – took place.
Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT) of this vessel are scheduled for the beginning of March, to be followed by Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT) a month later. The tug will be handed over to the Ordering Party in late April or early May.
The B860 tugs are characterised by a contract displacement of 490 tonnes and a capacity to carry 4 tonnes of cargo. The vessels are designed to perform both logistical support tasks at sea and in ports, as well as activities related to technical evacuation, rescue support, transport of people and supplies, pollution neutralisation and taking hazardous materials out of the water.
Ice class will allow them to operate in severe ice conditions assisted by icebreakers. The vessels can transport general cargo on the open deck with a total weight of up to 4.0 t, and for towing work they are equipped with towing lifts with a towing capacity of up to 35 t.
