How C-Dart System Boosts Safety and Efficiency for Mooring Operations

In marine operations, where every second counts, enhancing safety and efficiency is not just a goal—it’s a necessity. Blackfish Engineering have responded to this challenge with the C-Dart System, an innovative leap in offshore mooring technology that is reshaping the industry landscape.

The C-Dart System provides a rapid, reliable and low-risk solution to moor floating assets. The system offers a reliable mechanical latch connection that transforms the mooring process, enabling operations to be conducted faster and with greater safety. This advanced solution is proven to reduce the time to connect and disconnect moorings by up to 90%, while also significantly reducing the risk-profile, lowering the incidence of accidents.

With the C-Dart system, marine operators can now conduct operations more swiftly and safely, freeing up resources and significantly reducing risk,” said Tim Warren, Operations Director at Blackfish Engineering. “This system eliminates the need for manual handling of heavy shackles and mooring lines, enhancing operational consistency and safety across various sea conditions”.

The efficiency of the C-Dart System passive connection process, facilitated by its mechanical latch, is crucial in cutting overall operational costs and risk to personnel, particularly in the demanding realms of renewable energy projects and broader marine operations.

Constructed from high-tensile, corrosion-resistant materials, the C-Dart System endures the harsh marine environment, extending its service life while minimizing maintenance needs. Its design ensures seamless integration with various floating assets, including wave energy converters, support barges, multi-cat vessels and offshore wind support structures.

The benefits of the C-Dart system have been rigorously tested, including trials at the Fort William Underwater Center. In a recent field-testing program, John Maclellan, Operations Director Subsea Test and Evaluation Centre said: “We liked the concept; we ran multiple tests using different configurations and after testing it we were very impressed!
