MOWI Commissions Groundbreaking Aquaculture Catamaran from MEST

MEST, the leading shipyard in the Faroe Islands, has signed an agreement with MOWI for the construction of the largest catamaran ever built in the Faroe Islands. The vessel, measuring 24 meters in length and 12 meters in width, is scheduled for delivery in April 2027. Purpose-built for aquaculture operations, the new catamaran reflects the industry’s growing demand for larger deck space and increased onboard equipment capacity.

Onboard the catamaran, there is accommodation for two people – each with their own private cabin. Additionally, there is a shared galley and living area for up to eight people. The catamaran is specially designed for use in the Faroese aquaculture industry and meets the requirements of the Faroese Maritime Authority.

To meet the demands of lifting and handling larger equipment used in fish farming, the catamaran is equipped with two large cranes – the larger being a KL200T4 crane with a 5-ton winch and Scanreco RRC wireless remote control. The crane can lift 8,030 kg at a reach of 16.0 meters. The other is a 60 tm crane.

The catamaran has two large side thrusters, each providing approximately 80 HP. It will be delivered with a DP (Dynamic Positioning) system.

“MEST closely follows developments in the aquaculture industry and aims to deliver advanced catamarans of high quality at competitive prices,” says Mouritz Mohr, CEO of MEST.
