Naval Architecture & Engineering specialist GLO Marine appoints Engineering Manager to ensure strategic technical oversight of complex projects

GLO Marine has appointed Emil Chivu, one of the top executives in the shipbuilding industry in Romania, to the new position of Engineering Manager. This is a strategic move for GLO Marine, considering the company’s focus and increasing involvement in the design of specialised vessels and its strong collaboration with European shipyards both on newbuild projects and retrofits.

Emil Chivu has 20 years’ experience of managing complex ship engineering and production projects. This included working for Daewoo Mangalia first as head of the conversions team and then as the ship repair project manager. He then went on to be appointed to various management roles in the organization involving the production, strategy and innovation departments. Other positions have included head of Oman Drydock’s ship repair management department.

“GLO Marine has evolved rapidly towards evermore challenging and complex ship design projects, in a market that demands quick reaction times but high-quality standards,” says Liviu Galatanu, Managing Director of GLO Marine.  “Emil Chivu will have a significant impact in building that very important synergy between engineering and production. He will strengthen what we already do as a company – deliver our engineering and design projects with the success of the project at the forefront of all our actions. Having relevant management experience in the shipbuilding industry, Emil will be a valuable asset as we pursue our objective of being one of the top ship design companies in the specialized vessels segment.”

In recent years, GLO Marine has seen rapid growth in the number and complexity of projects delivered and its engineering departments have expanded accordingly. It has collaborated with shipyards around Europe such as VARD, Helsinki Shipyard and Mest Shipyard on the development of specialised vessels including pushers, tugs, fishing vessels, workboats and research vessels. It has also developed particular expertise in the vessel conversion market, as well as ballast water treatment system retrofits, having delivered more than 100 projects.

“GLO Marine employs a bold and no-nonsense approach to the business of ship design,” says Emil Chivu, Engineering Manager in GLO Marine. “They are flexible and client-centric, and these qualities are ones that you don’t encounter often in the industry. I feel like I could do a lot and have professionally have an impact in these conditions, given my experience in shipbuilding and awareness of the market. I look forward to this new journey.”
