Optimistic outlook on Taiwan offshore wind sector as CWind Taiwan acquires new CTV

CWind Taiwan announced today the acquisition of a new crew transfer vessel (CTV) to further enhance their market offering to Taiwan’s offshore wind industry. The CWind Pesanach is scheduled to arrive in February, and will join CWind Taiwan’s fleet – the largest in Taiwan – after completing the reflagging procedure. After reflagging the vessel will be deployed on offshore wind farm project off the coast of Changhua county for a project developer.

The booming growth of the offshore wind farm industry continues to drive a surplus of demand for CTVs in Taiwan. To keep pace with Taiwan’s rapidly developing offshore wind market CWind Taiwan continues to increase the number and capability of vessels to enhance the local vessel capacity and operating capability. The newly acquired CTV is built by the renowned Singapore ship builder, Penguin International Limited. With four SCANIA DI16 engines, the 27 metre wind vessel has a propulsion system with four Hamilton HM521 water jets that brings the maximum boat speed to 29 knots, and a high performance level for offshore personnel transfers.

Of the new vessel Tom Manning, General Manager of CWind Taiwan said: CWind Taiwan continues to invest in Taiwan offshore wind’s future growth, together with our partner IOVTEC. Our new vessel Pesanach further enhances both the size of our CTV fleet, and its capability, bringing unrivalled speed and transfer capability to the Taiwan market and increasing the time our technicians and our client’s technicians can spend on the turbines. Pesanach will be the first of many new vessels we bring to Taiwan in the coming years and underlines our long-term commitment to, and investment in, this key market.

CWind Taiwan, a joint venture between CWind and International Ocean Vessel Technical Consultant (IOVTEC), provides crew transfer vessels, offshore technicians, construction and O&M services, and training to the Taiwanese offshore wind farm industry. Sustaining cooperation with join ventures, CWind Taiwan is committed to taking real action to realize the vision of industrial localization.
