Rodman Implements AI-Powered Spill Detection System

Rodman, the renowned Spanish shipbuilder, has partnered with Spillcontrol to implement a cutting-edge AI-driven spill detection and monitoring system at its shipyard facilities in Moaña, Pontevedra. Installed in early April, this advanced system represents a significant investment in sustainable shipyard operations and environmental stewardship.

Spillcontrol is an automatic spillage control system, capable of detecting in real time the presence of spillages, emitting alarms so that the responsible manager can take the corrective measures deemed appropriate. The system makes it possible to register all the spillages that have occurred in a specific area, creating a database that permits the analysis of their origin, their frequency and their importance.

The system is made up of a series of video surveillance cameras installed facing the water surface. These cameras constantly send images to an external server, where an AI algorithm analyses them to determine whether the water is clean or contains any type of spill and/or flotsam. If pollutants are detected, the system sends an alarm via email, alerting the shipyard’s maintenance service so that appropriate corrective measures can be taken.

The AI-Powered Spill Detection System installation is very simple. The 4G cameras are solar-powered, which avoids the need to install complex cabling or external power sources.

With the implementation of the Spillcontrol system, Rodman advances in the proactive management of potential spills and occurrence of flotsam, minimising environmental impact and protecting marine ecosystems.

As part of Rodman’s environmental policy, this type of action reinforces the company’s commitment to comply with environmental legislation, continuous improvement and sustainability.
