Safehaven Marine Interceptor 60 Pilot Boat for DP World

Safehaven Marine announce the successful launch of Murshid, the first of two 18-meter, all-weather-capable Interceptor 60 pilot boats built for DP World’s pilotage operations at the Port of Jebel Ali in the UAE. This flagship vessel exemplifies the cutting-edge engineering and design excellence Safehaven Marine is renowned for worldwide.

Interceptor 60 pilot boat is based on an extended version of Safehaven’s proven Interceptor 55 platform, Murshid delivers an exceptional combination of speed, efficiency, and durability. Powered by twin 700hp Caterpillar C18 engines, her advanced hull design exceeded expectations during sea trials, achieving a remarkable top speed of 28.5 knots—more than three knots above the contracted speed.

Designed with great attention to detail, ‘Murshid’ offers a comprehensive suite of features tailored to meet the demanding needs of pilotage operations. At 60 feet in length overall (LOA), the vessel accommodates up to 12 pilots in comfort, thanks to a thoughtful combination of shock-mitigation seating, a well-appointed dinette seating area and a pilot command station. A central helm position ensures optimal visibility and precise vessel control, promoting safety and efficiency during critical boarding manoeuvres.

Acknowledging the unique challenges of hot-climate operations, Safehaven has equipped ‘Murshid’ with 80,000 BTU of air conditioning, powered by dual 20kW generators for redundancy. Full live-aboard facilities, including spacious forward accommodations, further enhance the vessel’s versatility and usability. Additionally, her robust fendering system incorporating Safehaven’s proven sacrificial boarding fully protects her from the rigours of boarding operations, and the inclusion of multiple safety features such as an MOB (Man Overboard) recovery platform, which incorporates an external helm position to augment recovery operations, showcases the vessel’s innovative design ethos.

As the 62nd pilot boat delivered by Safehaven Marine to ports around the globe, the DP World ‘Murshid’ represents another milestone in the company’s legacy of excellence. It underscores Safehaven Marine’s pre-eminence in the specialised pilot boat market, a reputation built on proven seakeeping ability, engineering prowess, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
