Türkiye based tug builder SANMAR Shipyards has delivered another state-of-the-art Boğaçay Class tug to Rimorchiatori Napoletani, a prominent Italian towage and maritime services provider. The the twin Z-drive, diesel-powered tug, previously named BOĞAÇAY LXXVIII during its construction phase, has been officially christened PORTOSALVO by its new owners.

SANMAR Shipyards, a leading builder of technologically advanced tugboats, has successfully delivered another state-of-the-art Boğaçay Class tugboat to Rimorchiatori Napoletani, a renowned Italian maritime services provider.

With a proud history dating back to 1917, Rimorchiatori Napoletani currently carries out towing services in the ports of Naples, Taranto, Bari and Gaeta.

This delivery is the first of a series of four sisterships, two already confirmed and two under option to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, and marks the eighth tugboat that SANMAR has delivered to Rimorchiatori Napoletani over the course of a long-standing and successful partnership between the two companies.

The tug PORTOSALVO is based on the exclusive-to-SANMAR RAmparts 2400SX MK-II design from acclaimed Canadian naval architects Robert Allan Ltd, which provides optimal efficiency in ship-handling duties for sea-going ships.

With an overall length of 24.4m, moulded beam of 12m, least moulded depth of 4.5m and navigational draft of approximately 5.45m, the tug can achieve a bollard pull over the stern of 70 tons and a free running speed of 12.5 knots.

Boğaçay tugs are continually evolving by taking advantage of the latest technologies and innovations as they become available. The latest versions, such as PORTOSALVO, are the most environmentally-friendly to date. Their green credentials include a high standard of machinery automation to maximise efficiency, and Tier III compliant main engines.

Care has also been taken to offer a high level of comfort to the tug’s crew of up to six people, including minimising onboard noise and providing a high standard of facilities.

Rüçhan Çıvgın, Commercial Director of Sanmar Shipyards, said: “Our latest Boğaçay Series tugs are unrivalled when it comes to performance, versatility, and efficiency. It is these factors, coupled with their green credentials, that has made them our best-sellers. It is the fact that the series continues to develop and evolve, and that each tug can be modified to meet individual client needs, that ensures Boğaçay tugs stay in pole position.”
