Built for Norway’s aquaculture industry, Fosna Neptune combines specialist diving capabilities with a spacious, high-performance platform
Norwegian shipbuilder Skarsvåg Boats has reached a significant milestone with the delivery of Fosna Neptune, the largest vessel ever constructed by the company. The 18-metre diving support vessel was handed over to Abyss AS on 1 July 2026 and will operate from Kristiansund, supporting diving operations across Norway’s aquaculture industry.
Representing the first vessel in the new Skarsvåg 1800 series, Fosna Neptune has been purpose-designed to maximise operational efficiency while providing modern accommodation and comfort for crew working on extended offshore assignments.
Powered by twin Volvo Penta D13 IPS900 propulsion systems, the vessel achieves a cruising speed of approximately 20 knots. Measuring 18 metres in length with a 5.4-metre beam, the vessel offers an efficient balance of deck space, performance and manoeuvrability for fish farm support operations.
Purpose-built features include a dedicated diving platform, specialist boarding arrangements for safe access to aquaculture installations and a spacious internal layout comprising four single cabins, a galley and mess, bathroom facilities, dedicated diving room, control room, engine room and tank room.
The vessel’s modern electrical installation and interior have been developed to meet the latest industry standards, while bespoke equipment has been integrated to support efficient commercial diving operations.
Construction of Fosna Neptune began in July 2025 and was completed in less than 12 months, demonstrating the shipyard’s production capability as it moves into larger commercial workboat construction.
The project brought together Skarsvåg Boats’ design, engineering and production teams in close collaboration with Abyss AS. Design Manager Vegard Kristiansen developed the vessel’s bespoke concept to meet the customer’s operational requirements, while General Manager Kai Egil Skarsvåg’s extensive boatbuilding experience helped shape a practical and functional design. Production Manager Joakim Skarshaug oversaw the integration of specialist equipment tailored to the vessel’s operational role, and Project Manager Tuva Fredagsvik Bremnes managed regulatory compliance and project documentation to ensure the vessel met all statutory requirements and certification standards ahead of delivery.
